Water & Hydration

Importance of Hydration

Drinking enough water every day is crucial in supporting the body's ability to regulate each system.  Keeping hydrated helps the body to regulate body temperature, keeps joints lubricated, prevents infections, aids in delivering nutrients to the cells, keeps organs functioning properly, and aids in flushing the body of waste materials.  Maintaining proper hydration may also improve sleep quality, cognition, and mood!

How much do I drink to hydrate?

Some experts recommend about 11 cups of water per day for the average woman, and 16 cups for the average man.  Sugary drinks, tea, and coffee are not good sources of hydration.  Tea and coffee will actually DEhydrate you.  If you are eating more fresh fruits, you may not need to drink quite as much.
A great amount to shoot for, and a more personalized number, is to drink about half your body weight in ounces.

150lbs divided by 2 = 75 oz
(that's about 2 quart jars a day)

Since about 70% of our body is made up of water, and optimal hydration ensures that every system is functioning properly, it's easy to see that hydration is one of the most important things you can do for your health.
